We are in a spiritual war

Our fight is not a physical one, but a spiritual one, so we must treat it as such and have our spiritual armor up.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. Ephesians 6:10-18

Let's be aware of the history of the city and God's promises for the city:
A Model of Christian Charity (New England's Covenant with God)

Who do you fear?

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28

Know your role in the body of Christ

For some, the response is visible protest, for others, sharing the Gospel, and others still, worship and praise.
I think about Daniel and how he had a consistent prayer life and when crisis hit, he didn't panic, but simply continued as he always did.

Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days. Daniel 6:10

Prayer points

  • Psalm 2-for the right view of God having all authority (Matthew 28:18) and for repentance and salvation for those who are rebelling
  • Repentance for any way we agree through our thoughts and actions with the enemy. Any ways in which we love the world and things in the world, any place where we place security or find satisfaction other than God. When the Psalms talk about not lifting our souls up to an idol, it refers to the place of trust and where we place it. God, make us people of trust and full faith in You!
  • The Lord's Prayer-right view of God as Father and for His name to be rightly revered in our hearts and in our city, for His kingdom and will to be done here in Boston as in heaven (where His will has full reign)

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10
